Packet Mail privacy policy

Packet Mail does not collect, store or share any personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.

What stays on your phone

Your callsign, name and home BBS, your connections, your mail and bulletins, and your address book are kept only on your phone. Passwords are kept in the phone's secure storage. The app talks only to the BBS you set up, at the address you give it.

Problem reports

If you choose "Report a problem", the app prepares a report with your description, the app version, your phone's system name and version, the BBS's version line, and the last 15 minutes of traffic with your BBS. Passwords are never included, and other people's message text is left out unless you tick the box to include it. You see exactly what will be sent before anything leaves your phone. Nothing is sent unless you tap Send. The report then goes over an encrypted connection to the developer's own server, which files it in a private place that only the developer can read. It is used only to fix problems in the app. Your internet address is used briefly to stop the same sender flooding the server, and is not stored. If sending fails, you can share the report yourself instead, for example by email.

Amateur radio

Packet radio mail is not private: messages travel unencrypted and may be read by anyone along the way.
